They called the television spot "This is Wholesome". The commercial featured gay fathers, a single dad and gasp! an interracial family. Oh, and they included a white heterosexual couple with a kid. This is the spot, from their website.

Honey Maid said on their Youtube page, "Today we celebrate all families. From working moms to two moms; stay at home dads to single dads; adopted kids to surrogate kids. Honey Maid recognizes that the reality of family has changed, but the wholesome connections that all families share will endure."

What is refreshing, is the fact that the company used actual families/people as opposed to actors. They also included a short interview with the gay dads and others who appeared in the video.

Naturally, some <strike>mentally inadequates</strike> had a problem with this and responded with their own campaign. One group responded,
Nabisco should be ashamed of themselves for their latest Honey Maid and Teddy Graham cracker commercial where they attempt to normalize sin. Right away it shows two men with a baby, followed by other families, and ends with different families pictured including the one with two dads. This commercial not only promotes homosexuality, but then calls the scene in the advertisement wholesome.

TAKE ACTION Please send U.S. key executives for Honey Maid and Nabisco (owned by Mondelez International) an email urging them to pull this liberal commercial immediately and remain neutral in the culture war.
With thanks to Right Wing Watch

Honey Maid also received backlash through twitter, e-mail, at least one radio talk show host, etc. So how did the company respond? In the most awesome way possible, that's how. They put out a 1 minute 43 seconds response video throwing the nutters hate right back in their face. Enjoy....
In addition to the traditional outlets, The Star, Globe & Mail, CBC, today they directed their anger toward Newstalk 1010, while on air spewing the usual nonsense. During a 1010 news update, rob ford's claim that the trip to the Windy City would not cost taxpayers a dime, was described as false. Well, that's all it took for the ford fucks to slide into victim/projection mode. From The Star:

Early in the Sunday show, Rob Ford claimed again that last week’s official trip to Chicago won’t cost taxpayers “a dime” — even though taxpayers are picking up the tab for at least some of the eight councillors who attended. Newstalk ran a mid-show update that pointed out his claim was false.

Soon after, Doug Ford said unnamed members of the media are “like a bunch of little sucky little kids” who “whine and cry and moan” when the Fords stand up to them and who “sensationalize and lie through their teeth.”
Rob Ford then added: “They’re pathological liars, that’s what drives me nuts.
The projection, oh, the projection from these two buffoons! The Star points out more of their lies and ends the piece with the Chicago blog post.

Here, it didn’t make the Tribune or the Sun-Times. Maybe that’s because, as I found out when I wrote a Great Lakes travelogue, Americans don’t want to read about Canada. Or maybe it’s because Ford didn’t look at all like a foreigner in Chicago. Although the Toronto Sun portrayed him as Jake Blues, he actually looks more like Jim Belushi’s brother-in-law on According to Jim than John Belushi. And he has the personality of Saturday Night Live motivational speaker Matt Foley. Ford is so loud and obese it wouldn’t have been surprising if he’d applied for asylum in the United States.

Say what you will about Rapepublican Todd Akin, but he's comforted at least one woman.

LITCHFIELD, CT—Though she was initially upset following the brutal sexual assault last month that left her pregnant, victim Martha Byars told reporters she was relieved Sunday to learn from Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO) that her ability to conceive her unwanted child proves she was not, in fact, legitimately raped.

“It was absolutely horrific—I felt violated in the worst way imaginable—but thanks to Congressman Akin, I now realize it must, at some level, have been consensual after all.”
Hmm, that article has caused me to wonder if perhaps, some are being too hard on Akin over this. When one considers his party's stellar reputation when it comes to supporting women's rights, this is most likely a one off. I think this article explains well, why ridiculous comments like those from Akin, are rare.
WASHINGTON—In the wake of last weekend’s highly controversial comments from Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO), top Republican officials condemned the congressman’s statements Monday, calling them a black mark on the party’s otherwise flawless record on women’s rights issues. “Throughout our history, whether it’s been our position on birth control, abortion, or equal pay for equal work, Republicans have always stood together with women, listening to their needs and fighting for issues that are are important to them.

That is why we were stunned that someone from our own party could have made such insensitive remarks or expressed such uninformed opinions about women,”
Yeah, I'm certain it will never happen again.
There you have it, ladies. There is absolutely no reason for birth control, or worrying about rape. Because according to republican Senate nominee, Todd Akin, god has taken care of everything. Your body will just know to reject that sperm. Unless of course you are faking said rape, in which case you WILL abide by the almighty's plans.

Akin was being interviewed on KTVI-TV, and being asked where he stood on various issues. When asked if abortion should be legal in cases of rape, he responded:
"Well you know, people always want to try and make it one of those things, well how do you slice this particularly tough, sort of ethical question. It seems to me, first of all, from what I understand from doctors [pregnancy from rape] is really rare. If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down."

"Let’s assume that maybe that didn’t work, or something," Akin said. "I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be on the rapist and not attacking the child."

In rightwing world, the very second a woman becomes pregnant, she has created a baby, willingly or not, and should lose all her freedoms. It's all about the baby, baby! Well, until it comes out of the womb. After that, fuck them, they can pull themselves up by their tiny baby boot straps.

Not surprisingly, after realizing the shitstorm he set off, Akin released a statement, trying to reassure people that he is not as insane as he sounds. He simply misspoke! However, Akin's history suggests this was no slip up. From the first link.
Akin is perhaps the boldest among a crop of conservative 2012 nominees who could hamper GOP efforts to take back the Senate in the fall. Akin has called for an end to the school-lunch program and a total ban on the morning-after pill.

His claim about “legitimate” types of rape is not completely foreign to the current Republican Congress, however. In 2011, the House GOP was forced to drop language from a bill that would have limited federal help to pay for an abortion to only victims of “forcible rape.” Akin was a co-sponsor on the bill.

Nor is this Akin’s first time suggesting some types of rape are more worthy of protections than others. As a state legislator, Akin voted in 1991 for an anti-marital-rape law, but only after questioning whether it might be misused “in a real messy divorce as a tool and a legal weapon to beat up on the husband,” according to a May 1 article that year in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
The calls for Akin to withdraw have begun.
Christianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17496399033349383306noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8152122765148885983.post-67970430990411610562012-08-11T13:11:00.000-04:002012-08-11T13:11:28.008-04:00romney introduces paul ryan as "next President of the United States". Plus 12 things to know about ryan. While Mitt's follies continue, opposition research is off to a rocking start. Think Progress has put up a dozen examples showcasing Paul Ryan's political ideology. No doubt, the tea baggers and the rest of the right wing world will welcome Romney's pick with open arms. Sane people, not so much. A few examples:
~ Ryan embraces the extreme philosophy of Ayn Rand. Ryan heaped praise on Ayn Rand, a 20th-century libertarian novelist best known for her philosophy that centered on the idea that selfishness is “virtue.” Rand described altruism as “evil,” condemned Christianity for advocating compassion for the poor, viewed the feminist movement as “phony,” and called Arabs “almost totally primitive savages.

~Ryan wants to end Medicare, replace it with a voucher system. Ryan’s latest budget transforms the existing version of Medicare, in which government provides seniors with a guaranteed benefit, into a “premium support” system. All future retirees would receive a government contribution to purchase insurance from an exchange of private plans or traditional fee-for-service Medicare. But since the premium support voucher does not keep up with increasing health care costs, the Congressional Budget Offices estimates that new beneficiaries could pay up to $1,200 more by 2030 and more than $5,900 more by 2050.

~Ryan’s budget would result in 4.1 million lost jobs in 2 years. Ryan’s budget calls for massive reductions in government spending. He has proposed cutting discretionary programs by about $120 billion over the next two years and mandatory programs by $284 billion, which, the Economic Policy Institute estimates, would suck demand out of the economy and “reduce employment by 1.3 million jobs in fiscal 2013 and 2.8 million jobs in fiscal 2014, relative to current budget policies.”
Christianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17496399033349383306noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8152122765148885983.post-45555031319712193202012-08-06T15:50:00.000-04:002012-08-06T15:57:39.178-04:00P.S.A !...Chick-Felays is NOT Chick-fil-A! Know Your Target!People, please! It's protesting 101. Know who it is you are upset with. While your intentions may be noble, your approach is objectionable. Imagine a business owner having customers walk in, order food and then not only refuse the order, but berate the staff. According to this Star story, that is exactly what happened to Nabeel Khan, President and CEO of the Chick-Felays franchise.
“We had one guy come into one of our restaurants, ordered his food, and then refused it, asking us how we could be so discriminating,” said Khan, recounting a string of such encounters between customers and employees at Chick-Felays’ four locations in southern Ontario. “We had no idea what he was talking about. He said, ‘This is garbage,’ and walked out.”
It took a while for Mr.Khan to figure out folks were associating his franchise with the American Taliban chain, and felt compelled to post a sign in the store receiving most of the unwarranted attacks.
Among the more memorable moments in his restaurants, Khan mentioned a couple who arrived at one location asking the cashier, “How can you work for a boss who is so discriminating?” while a family came in yelling “you’re disgusting.”
He said the situation became so severe at Chick-Felays’s Listowel restaurant that a sign had to be placed in the window indicating “We are pleased to announce that we are not affiliated with Chick-fil-A.”
So back to my original appeal. People, please! Know who it is you are upset with, or you might be causing grief for an innocent business owner, his or her family and staff, for absolutely no reason! Mr.Khan comes across as a great Canadian. His advice to the bigot Dan Cathy is this:
He says if he were ever to meet Dan Cathy, restaurateur to restaurateur, he would give him this advice: “I would tell him to smarten up. Think before you open your mouth. I would tell him that not hurting people, even with words, is what humanity is all about.”
Chick~Felays' website for locations, services, or who knows, perhaps some positive feedback.Christianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17496399033349383306noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8152122765148885983.post-89134840629316011082012-07-28T14:45:00.001-04:002012-07-28T14:45:00.917-04:00Enbridge claims credit for latest environmental attack

Almost two years to the day of the Michigan spill, Enbridge marks the anniversary with another "release of crude oil", this time in Wisconsin. According to an Enbridge Energy Partners media release,
Jul 28, 2012 (Marketwire via COMTEX) --Enbridge Energy Partners, LP (NYSE:EEP) ("the Partnership") reported this afternoon that a release of crude oil from Line 14 has been contained. The site is near Grand Marsh, Wisconsin.

At approximately 2:45 CDT, July 27, 2012 the Enbridge Pipelines Control Center detected a pressure drop on Line 14. Control Center operators shut down and immediately isolated the line. Enbridge emergency crews were promptly deployed to the site.

No one was injured. The oil has been contained on the west side of County Road G in a field, mostly on the pipeline right-of-way. The initial estimate of the volume released is approximately 1200 barrels.

"Enbridge is treating this situation as a top priority," said Richard Adams, vice president, U.S. Operations, Enbridge. "We are bringing all necessary resources to bear. Our immediate focus is on keeping our workers and the public safe as we work to remove the oil and clean up the site."

Enbridge has notified and is working with emergency officials and the appropriate regulators. The cause of the release has not been determined and is being investigated.

At this time, Enbridge does not have an estimated time for restart of the line.

Line 14 is a 24-inch, pipeline with capacity of 317,600 barrels per day, installed in 1998. It predominantly transports light crude oil to Chicago area refineries. It is part of the Partnership''s Lakehead System and owned by Enbridge Energy,Limited Partnership, a subsidiary of the Partnership.
Radical.

Clearly, the angry, threatened and threatening, hostile comments are coming from gun owners and gun advocates. Despite these massacres recurring and despite the 100,000 Americans that die every year due to domestic gun violence - these people see no value to even considering some kind of control as to what kinds of weapons are put in civilian hands.

Many of them cite patriotism as their reason - true patriots support the Constitution adamantly and wholly. Constitution says citizens have the right to bear arms in order to maintain organized militias. I'm no constitutional scholar so here it is from the document itself:

As passed by the Congress:
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
As ratified by the States and authenticated by Thomas Jefferson, Secretary of State:
"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

So the patriots are correct, gun ownership is in the constitution - if you're in a well-regulated militia. Let's see what no less a statesman than Alexander Hamilton had to say about a militia:

"A tolerable expertness in military movements is a business that requires time and practice. It is not a day, or even a week, that will suffice for the attainment of it. To oblige the great body of the yeomanry, and of the other classes of the citizens, to be under arms for the purpose of going through military exercises and evolutions, as often as might be necessary to acquire the degree of perfection which would entitle them to the character of a well-regulated militia, would be a real grievance to the people, and a serious public inconvenience and loss."

Then there are the tweets from the extreme right - these are the folk who believe our government has been corrupted and stolen and that the forces of evil are at play, planning to take over this nation and these folk are going to fight back and take a stand. And any moron like me who doesn't see it should...
a. be labeled a moron
b. shut the fuck up
c. be removed

And amazingly, I have some minor agreement with these folks. I believe there are evil forces at play in our government. But I call them corporatists. I call them absolutists. I call them the kind of ideologues from both sides, but mostly from the far right who swear allegiance to unelected officials that regardless of national need or global conditions, are never to levy a tax. That they are never to compromise or seek solutions with the other side. That are to obstruct every possible act of governance, even the ones they support or initiate. Whose political and social goal is to marginalize the other side, vilify and isolate them with the hope that they will surrender, go away or die out.
And as I am posting this, the attacks on Jason continue.Christianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17496399033349383306noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8152122765148885983.post-90552161653365681082012-02-07T10:49:00.001-05:002012-02-07T11:13:31.640-05:00Just in: whack job Karen Handel resigns from Susan G. Komen for the Cure breast-cancer charity after a dispute over whether the group should give funding to Planned Parenthood, according to a letter obtained by The Associated Press.

Karen Handel, the charity’s vice president for public policy, told Komen officials that she supported the move to cut off funding for Planned Parenthood. She said the discussion started before she arrived at the organization and was approved at the highest levels of the charity.
“I am deeply disappointed by the gross mischaracterizations of the strategy, its rationale, and my involvement in it,” Handel said in her letter. “I openly acknowledge my role in the matter and continue to believe our decision was the best one for Komen’s future and the women we serve.”
According to the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of repercussions, a driving force behind the move was Handel...

Brinker, in an interview with MSNBC, said Handel didn’t have a significant role in the policy change.Handel, a Republican, ran for Georgia governor in 2010, winning an endorsement from former vice presidential candidate and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. Handel then lost a primary runoff to former Georgia Congressman Nathan Deal, who won the general election.

Full text of Handel's resignation.
While I appreciate your raising a possible severance package, I respectfully decline. It is my most sincere hope that Komen is allowed to now refocus its attention and energies on its mission.
Well, at least she won't be taking a huge payout. Adler put forth three options on how to deal with those who don't put Israeli interests ahead of their own. Lets jump to option three.
"Three, give the go-ahead for US-based Mossad agents to take out a president deemed unfriendly to Israel in order for the current vice-president to take his place, and forcefully dictate that the United States' policy includes its helping the Jewish state obliterate its enemies,"

"Yes, you read "three" correctly. Order a hit on a president in order to preserve Israel's existence. Think about it. If I have thought of this Tom Clancy-type scenario, don't you think that this almost unfathomable idea has been discussed in Israel's most inner circles?"

"How far would you go to save a nation comprised of 7 million lives – Jews, Christians and Arabs alike? You have got to believe, like I do, that all options are on the table."
Apparently, the piece wasn't published online, an "anonymous tipster" uploaded the article and forwarded it to Gawker.com. Gawker contacted Mr.Adler, giving him an opportunity to explain his remarks. Here is the exchange.
A nervous Adler told me over the phone that he wasn't advocating Obama's assassination by Mossad agents. "Of course not," he said.

gawker: But do you think Israel should consider it an option?
Adler: "No."

(g): But do you believe that Israel is in fact considering the option in its most inner circles?
(A): "No. Actually, no. I was hoping to make clear that it's unspeakable—god forbid this would ever happen. I take it you're quoting me?"

(G): Yes.
(A): "Oh, boy."
After being asked about the contradictions between the article and his statements over the phone, Adler asked for a few minutes, presumably, to give him time to come up with a plausible explanation for suggesting Israel assassinate the President of the United States. And he came up with a winner!
When I asked Adler why, if he didn't advocate assassination and didn't believe Israel was actually considering it, he wrote a column saying he believed that the option was "on the table," he asked for a minute to compose himself and call me back. He did a few moments later, and said, "I wrote it to see what kind of reaction I was going to get from readers."

And what was the reaction? "We've gotten a lot of calls and emails."
Of course he has since apologized, however, that does not excuse what he wrote. He lent a voice to extremists who would love nothing more than having Barack Obama meet a horrific ending.

He sought reaction. That's the best excuse he could come up with. Fine, here are some reactions.

The American Jewish Committee in Atlanta:
"While we acknowledge Mr. Adler's apology, we are flabbergasted that he could ever say such a thing in the first place. How could he even conceive of such a twisted idea?" said Dov Wilker, director of AJC Atlanta. "Mr. Adler surely owes immediate apologies to President Obama, as well as to the State of Israel and his readership, the Atlanta Jewish community."

Abraham Foxman, National Director of the Anti-Defamation League: "There is absolutely no excuse, no justification, no rationalization for this kind of rhetoric. It doesn't even belong in fiction. These are irresponsible and extremist words. It is outrageous and beyond the pale. An apology cannot possibly repair the damage. Irresponsible rhetoric metastasizes into more dangerous rhetoric. The ideas expressed in Mr. Adler's column reflect some of the extremist rhetoric that unfortunately exists -- even in some segments of our community -- that maliciously labels President Obama as an 'enemy of the Jewish people.' Mr. Adler's lack of judgment as a publisher, editor and columnist raises serious questions as to whether he's fit to run a newspaper."
From Haaretz Jewish publisher is an idiot - but his hatred is shared by many.
Anyone who has spent any time talking to some of the more vociferous detractors of Obama, Jewish or otherwise, has inevitably encountered those nasty nutters, and they are many, who still believe he is a Muslim, who are utterly convinced that he wants to destroy Israel, and who seriously debate whether he is more like Ahmadinejad than Arafat or – and I heard this one with my own ears – more like Hitler than Haman.

Anyone who reads some of the opinion articles and blogs posted on the Internet by the more extreme Obama-hating writers and pundits – again, many of them Jews - cannot deny the wanton and inflammatory nature of much of their anti-Obama invective.

One wonders how many of today’s anti-Obama politicians and opinion-makers, the latter-day elders of yore, will be able to read Adler’s crazed counsel to Benjamin Netanyahu, and, may that day never come, take a good look in the mirror, wash their hands of the whole affair and declare with a clear conscience that their otherwise sharp and probing eyes didn’t see a thing.

Christianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17496399033349383306noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8152122765148885983.post-65921455082678844822012-01-18T15:47:00.001-05:002012-01-18T19:39:19.303-05:00Keystone XL pipeline proposal rejectedThe U.S. government has denied an application by TransCanada to build the Keystone XL pipeline, the State Department announced Wednesday
The always vigilant folks over at DESMOGBLOG are keeping an eye on the oil shills and their propaganda campaign while debunking their claims.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Republican Congressional Committee want to make sure that no matter what your opinion of the decision, and no matter who you follow, that you won't be able to avoid their political spin.

First, some lunacy from the Mars visitors.
According to Mr. Basiago and Mr. Stillings, in Summer 1980 they attended a three-week factual seminar about Mars to prepare them for trips that were then later taken to Mars via teleportation.

In addition to Basiago and Stillings, two of the eight other teenagers in Major Dames’ class that they can identify today were Barack Obama, who was then using the name “Barry Soetoro,” and Regina Dugan, who Mr. Obama appointed the 19th director and first female director of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency...

Mr. Basiago states that during one of his trips to Mars via “jump room” that took place from 1981 to 1983, he was sitting on a wall beneath an arching roof that covered one of the “jump room” facilities as he watched Mr. Obama walk back to the jump room from across the Martian terrain. When Mr. Obama walked past him and Mr. Basiago acknowledged him, Mr. Obama stated, with some sense of fatalism: “Now we’re here!”

Mr. Stillings states that during one of his visits to Mars, he walked out of the “jump room” facility and encountered Mr. Obama standing beside the facility by himself staring vacantly into a ravine located adjacent to the facility.
For more crazy, and there is more, follow the link.

And now Orly. I can't believe she is still at this! Even more disturbing though, is the fact that the New Hampshire Ballot Law Commission would grant her an hour to spew her nonsense. But they did.
Dated Tue., Nov. 22 2011

Taitz and some foaming-at-the-piehole New Hampshire state reps filed a complaint Saturday to knock President Barack Obama off the primary ballot in the Granite State because he's a forger and social security fraudster.

The state's Ballot Law Commission flatly turned down the complaint with a very public 5-0 vote, causing birther bellyachers to make a showy retreat from the Concord hearing room, braying, "Treason!" "Traitors" and "You have no decency."
After the decision, Orly's firm grasp of reality, shone through.
"The level of corruption was unbelievable," Taitz reportedly said later to Sharon Rondeau of something called the Post & Email. "We found out that all five members of the committee are Democrats. As I was presenting all of the evidence, people were listening and getting more and more angry."
Of course, the chair of the commission is Brad Cook, a prominent Republican. I used to get a chuckle from people like these, but shit, when someone is this divorced from reality, it's not a laughing matter.
Christianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17496399033349383306noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8152122765148885983.post-16177893898712866252011-12-25T22:02:00.001-05:002011-12-25T22:02:00.735-05:00Whew! Despite Late Attack on Santa, christmas 2011 pulls through!
Man, that was close! As evidenced by the photo, a baby jesus hatin cop ambushed jolly ol' St.Nick on his last stop. The poor guy was prevented from shimmying down the chimney, forced instead, to ungracefully "drop" the last gift down the opening. Barely!

I won't sugar coat this. I was very worried we might not make it this year. After reading story after story of vicious attacks from people pushing some nonsense about the separation of church and state, I thought they had us.

And consider this, now backed by a Muslim/Kenyan President as an ally, the "war on christmas" <s>and apple pie, and the troops, and white people</s> had reached a crisis point.

Would courts side with the extremists who believe the government should represent all of society, or would they agree with the reasonable folks who want to remind everyone, everywhere, all the time, that their beliefs are the only ones that matter?

Although it wasn't a perfect outcome, due to the fact some of the zealots were allowed to put up displays on government property, in the end, faith prevailed and christmas was saved!

And with that, Season's Greetings to all and a safe and happy 2012!

For the full story and images, visit the New York Times

A former employee of the largest foreclosure firm in New York City, Steven J. Baum, has shared some photos taken at last years office party, revealing what she describes as 'an accurate representation of the firm's mind-set.'

"There is this really cavalier attitude," she said. "It doesn't matter that people are going to lose their homes." Nor does the firm try to help people get mortgage modifications; the pressure, always, is to foreclose.

From the author of the article:
Let me describe a few of the photos. In one, two Baum employees are dressed like homeless people. One is holding a bottle of liquor. The other has a sign around her neck that reads: "3rd party squatter. I lost my home and I was never served." My source said that "I was never served" is meant to mock "the typical excuse" of the homeowner trying to evade a foreclosure proceeding.

A second picture shows a coffin with a picture of a woman whose eyes have been cut out. A sign on the coffin reads: "Rest in Peace. Crazy Susie." The reference is to Susan Chana Lask, a lawyer who had filed a class-action suit against Steven J. Baum - and had posted a YouTube video denouncing the firm's foreclosure practices. "She was a thorn in their side," said my source.

These pictures are hardly the first piece of evidence that the Baum firm treats homeowners shabbily - or that it uses dubious legal practices to do so. It is under investigation by the New York attorney general, Eric Schneiderman. It recently agreed to pay $2 million to resolve an investigation by the Department of Justice into whether the firm had "filed misleading pleadings, affidavits, and mortgage assignments in the state and federal courts in New York." (In the press release announcing the settlement, Baum acknowledged only that "it occasionally made inadvertent errors.")
The firms reaction to the Times piece?

"It has been suggested that some employees dress in ... attire that mocks or attempts to belittle the plight of those who have lost their homes," the statement read. "Nothing could be further from the truth." It described this column as "another attempt by The New York Times to attack our firm and our work."

Yes, those images aren't mocking anyone! Those employees dressing up to portray those who have lost their homes as whining, lying, alcoholic losers, is just their way of showing empathy.

Assholes!Christianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17496399033349383306noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8152122765148885983.post-49811631746735603232011-10-24T14:08:00.003-04:002011-10-24T21:07:29.217-04:00Marine to NYPD:"this is not a war zone, it doesn't make you tough, to hurt these people! It doesn't! If you want to go fight, go to Iraq and Afghanistan"
Inspiring video.

U.S Marine Corps. Sgt. Shamar Thomas challenged a large number of New York City police officer's at a Times Square OWS gathering just over a week ago. The young veteran was outraged with the acts of intimidation and outright police brutality directed at unarmed, non threatening protesters. Thomas confronted the police, face to face, asking cops, "why you all doing this to these people? I've been to Iraq for fourteen months for my people! You come over and hurt them, they don’t have guns. They don’t have guns. They don’t — why are you hurting these people?" And the cops are stunned. They don't know what to do. My opinions on what the men in blue were thinking, aside, the 24 year old continued reprimanding.

"This is America"
"nobody is trying to hurt you guys"
"There are no bullets flying out here, there are no bullets flying, how tuff are you"
"There is no honor in hurting unarmed civilians"
"There is no reason for this"
"There is no honor in hurting unarmed civilians, I won't let it happen, have a good night"

Now some have criticized the good sergeant's demeanor, and I admit there were a couple of times during the incident where it became a repetitive rant, but it was an intense situation which could have backfired on the young man, and because of that I'm am dismissing the critics objections as mere nit picking.

It was full of win, as they say. When the confrontation came to an end and Thomas walked away, random protesters reached out in a show of support.
My short explanation is this. I would never vote for a right wing conservative such as Tim Hudak. And after observing Andrea Horwath in the spotlight for the first time, I'm not impressed with her either.

The Star has a more legitimate breakdown. Some points.
Tim Hudak’s Progressive Conservatives and Andrea Horwath’s New Democrats both claim to offer the “change” they feel voters want. While they have worked hard to relate to voters’ insecurities and fears about jobs and rising costs, neither has put forward credible plans that would address those concerns.

Under the Liberals, Ontario’s education system has become a world leader. They brought in full-day kindergarten. High-school graduation rates have gone up sharply. And more students than ever are going on to college and university. The government invested heavily in hospitals, doctors and nurses and, more recently, has begun to implement important cost-saving measures in health care. It stabilized our electricity system; the blackout of 2003 is a bad memory and we no longer have to wonder whether the lights will go out again.

McGuinty has proven he is willing to make politically difficult but necessary decisions. Indeed, that’s where much of his unpopularity comes from.

On energy, McGuinty would have been more popular if he continued the game that previous premiers played — under-investing in our electricity system and hiding rising costs within the provincial budget. Instead, he made the right decision for Ontario’s future. Hydro bills are higher, but despite the claims by Hudak and Horwath that has little to do with the Liberals’ green energy policies. It has far more to do with investments in new power supply (nuclear, natural gas and hydroelectric), transmission lines and paying down debt left over from previous governments. The suggestion by Hudak and Horwath that electricity will be much cheaper if they win isn’t credible.
Christianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17496399033349383306noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8152122765148885983.post-63576163949845736442011-05-11T15:58:00.000-04:002011-05-13T16:55:49.292-04:00Sportsnet fires host following anti-gay marriage tweetOr it may have just been the last straw in a strained work environment. Karma, and all that.

Anyway, Barack Obama decides that releasing the pictures of osama bin killed, might not be a good idea.
"It is important for us to make sure that very graphic photos of somebody who is shot in the head are not floating around as an incitement to additional violence or as a propaganda tool…we don't trot out this stuff as trophies," said Obama, who saw the photos.
Deputy dipper Thomas Mulcair says, yeah, that's because he doesn't have any pictures, so there!
Thomas Mulcair struck a conspiracy theory note Wednesday when he told CBC TV that U.S. President Barack Obama's version of the death of the terrorist mastermind is incomplete, if not untrue.

"I don't think from what I've heard that those pictures exist,"
Where did you hear that, Mr.Mulcair? Alex Jones, perhaps?

update

Well that didn't take long. Foreign affairs critic Paul Dewar contradicts Mulcair.
"We have no reason to doubt the veracity of President Obama’s statement," Dewar wrote in an emailed statement.

"I understand that the U.S. government has photos, but decided not to release them as they do not want them used as trophies. This is a legitimate concern. We agree these types of photos shouldn’t be used as propaganda tools.

"As in all cases, the public’s right to know must be balanced with public safety concerns."
So Dewar would hide information when he thinks it's appropriate? Not very dipper like, I must say!Christianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17496399033349383306noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8152122765148885983.post-52951220976757985782011-04-30T12:22:00.001-04:002011-04-30T12:23:23.796-04:00scummy ex cop tells Scum Media that cops hate poor peopleCould this ex cop be julian fantino? He's an ex Toronto cop, and scummy to boot! At any rate, the smear job on Jack Layton, which by the way, Orwell's Bastard has done a bitchin job covering, does reveal the contempt certain cops have for those less fortunate. It could explain why they kill people with diminished capacity, those who arrive from foreign lands and don't speak English, assault those whose only crime is having an artificial limb. Perhaps the Scum Media chain could investigate that. While I hold my breath with anticipation, here is the passage.
"To have arrested him and charged him would have served our egos a lot more. Layton was a thorn in the side of the police, siding with the anti-poverty movement in '96 or '97 ... Jack was anti-police," the ex-cop said.
So if being anti~poverty makes one anti~police, it only follows that, you must despise the poor if you want to be pro~police, right?

Shake it off, Jack. Of course it is an embarrassing incident, but your only crime was being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Here is some quick background.

She is running for steve harper in the federal election in my district. I received calls from both stella and steve within thirty~six hours of each other. Stella Ambler adores steve harper and is running on his record.

end of update

Hey Stella! Was that you that cut me off and endangered both of our lives this morning?

Do you drive a white car with a prominent sign displaying your name on the passenger door, the door I would have hit if I hadn't slammed my brakes?

The intersection was Indian Road and Infinity. You fascist loving opportunist!

More on Stella in the coming days,....unless of course, I die going to work one day because a right wing fuckhead decides her time is so valuable that rules don't apply to stephen harper fans.Christianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17496399033349383306noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8152122765148885983.post-70464960406234666902011-02-17T20:36:00.000-05:002011-02-17T20:36:18.641-05:00steve harper, governing by sledgehammerA brilliant analogy, Mr.Gardner!

snippet
The other day I picked up a sledgehammer and smashed my television.

The wife and kids were somewhat surprised.

“Honey,” my wife said gently. “Why did you do that?”

“Didn’t like the picture quality,” I replied.

“But we’ve had that TV for years and you never said a word about it before,” she said.

I shrugged.

My wife expressed further disgruntlement. So did the kids. I thought they’d shut up about it but they just kept going on and on. It was annoying.

“OK,” I said. “I’ll fix the situation.”

So I went to the store. “Fix the situation,” I told the clerk.

The clerk showed me new TVs.

“Do these have better picture quality than the TV I smashed?” I asked.

“No,” he said. “The TV you smashed is the best TV there is. No other TV is its equal. Would you like to buy a new one?”

Wow, I thought. This guy’s not very sharp. “I’d look pretty stupid if I bought the same TV I smashed,” I said. “I want a different TV. But it should be as good as the one I smashed.”

The clerk frowned. “But I just told you no other TV is as good as the TV you smashed.”

“I don’t care about your problems, buddy, “ I said. “Fix the situation.”

This is how Prime Minister Stephen Harper governs Canada.
Here is the rest of the anecdote.Christianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17496399033349383306noreply@blogger.com0
